November 04 MoveCalifornia

Welcome to MoveCalifornia

The foundation of MoveCalifornia rests on the fact that physical therapists are experts in physical movement and performance and can improve the lives of people through instruction and education on proper body functions. And, they can teach people how to avoid injury by incorporating personalized, safe, healthy exercise, and activity into daily lives.

MoveCalifornia aspires to educate Californians on how to avoid potential injuries. Proper stretching, along with appropriate lifting and strengthening techniques, must be practiced to escape injuries that could become lifelong problems.

Overall, MoveCalifornia seeks to create a healthier population through education and outreach emphasizing the importance of daily physical activity and its contribution to a lifelong benefit of improved quality of life for Californians.

November 01 The FIZIO Team joins the fight against cancer

We have decided to join a global movement that is bringing much needed attention to cancers that affect men.  We are doing this by growing a Moustache this Movember, the month formerly known as November. Our commitment is to grow a moustache all November and we are hoping that you will support oiur efforts by making a donation.  The funds raised go to the Prostate Cancer Foundation and the Lance Armstrong Foundation (LIVESTRONG).

What many people don’t know is that 1 in 6 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime and testicular cancer is the most common cancer in men aged 18-35.  Facts like these have convinced me I should get involved.

To make a donation, you can either:

•    Click this link http://us.movember.com/mospace/90599/ and donate online using your credit card or PayPal account , or
•    Write a check payable to ‘Movember Foundation’, referencing my Registration Number 90599 and mailing it to: Movember Foundation, PO Box 2726, Venice, CA 90294-2726.

All donations are tax deductible to the extent permitted by law.

The Prostate Cancer Foundation will use the money raised by Movember to fund research to find better treatments and a cure for prostate cancer.

The Lance Armstrong Foundation will use the money raised by Movember to fund:

•    The LIVESTRONG Young Adult Alliance program which has the goal of improving survival rates and quality of life for young adults with cancer between the ages of 15 and 40.
•    Research initiatives to further understand the biology of adolescent and young adult cancers.

For more details on how the funds raised from previous campaigns have been used and the impact Movember is having please go to http://us.movemberfoundation.com/research-and-programs.

Thank you,

-The FIZIO Team

October 22 International Policy Summit

International Policy Summit on Direct Access and Advanced Scope of Practice

Partnering with the Canadian Physiotherapy Association (CPA) and the World Confederation for Physical Therapy (WCPT), APTA will collaborate to host the first annual International Policy Summit on Direct Access and Advanced Scope of Practice in Physical Therapy. The goal of this summit is to advance the practice of physical therapy by exploring the current status of different nations and the emerging policies on direct access.

In conjunction with Vision 2020, we are challenging each state to strive for representation at this conference. We encourage APTA members to use this unique opportunity to represent our organization at the summit that takes place October 22-24 in National Harbor, MD, just outside Washington, DC.

Physical therapists/physiotherapists from around the world will come together to share their knowledge about direct access and scope of practice issues facing the physical therapy profession today. Programming for the event will include symposiums on policy of direct access and scope of practice, poster presentations, and breakout discussions and working groups. This is an opportunity to learn the latest research supporting these policy initiatives and share strategies for implementing policy at the local, regional or national level.
